The first time I became interested in radar detecting products (such as a radar detector or a radar jammer) was 1994. There I was, carefully driving my car late at night, well within the speed range, when suddenly, a police man signals me to stop. “Is there a problem, officer?” I politely queried? According to the police officer, who was checking cars for speeding, I was going over the speed limit. Regardless of how hard I attempted to persuade him that I didn’t, he wouldn’t let me go. And why would he?

What specificallyfrustrated me is that I was not going over the speed limit - not at all. I wasn’t even close! Obviously his radar gun was not working properly. I did a significant amount of research on the topic, read about the way radar guns work, read tons of radar detector reviews, and found out that frequently there is a mistake in the speed the radar gun measures. Of course, the vast majority of individuals who receive a speeding ticket simply never argue when in fact they should argue their case in court (which is aware of these problems, but who has the time and patience to fight the system? I never did either.

Since then I’ve become somewhat of an advocate of radar detectors, and in fact, dedicated much of my time to discovering the best radar detector (in my humble opinion, the passport 9500ix). Yeah, it allows people to speed, but many people will do it anyway. What I believe is its main strength is it protects you from being falsely accused of driving over the speed limit. Until more precise radar guns are manufactured, I feel this is our only way of protecting ourselves from getting speeding ticket without over speeding.
