Sometimes when I imagine the future, I get very worried. Fuel reserves are dropping each day (despite the occasional discovery of a new source) and we are certain to run out of oil at some point in the next few decades. Since so much of our economy depends on this, who knows what the future holds?
Furthermore, the fact that so many individuals are unaware of this, and aren’t familiar with even elementary facts about solar energy, scares me. After all, this is our future. Once there is no oil left, we will need to use what we currently call alternative (or green) energy sources. When this happens, we will all have wind power generators. “build your own wind turbine” is a sentence I imagine we will hear often in this future. Or “build your own solar panel”.
However, until we reach this scary future, we must educate our children in order for them to be ready. First, we must warn them of what is soon to come, that the present they know won’t last forever, and that the “easily available” energy source known as fuel will not always be around. Second, we must emphasize the necessity - and the usefulness - of green energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric energy and so on. Third, we should start creating educational courses for the creation of alternative energy sources (for example, building solar panels or wind turbines). Only by doing this our children will be ready for the future that is coming - and not too far from now.
